Art education is an essential part of our society, as it helps to nurture and develop every individual. It is not something that can be learned through casual or random exposure, just like mathematics or science. The Katy Independent School District understands the importance of art education and has made it an integral part of the school curriculum for all students. Westbury Christian School is a private Christian school located in Southwest Houston that welcomes students of any race, color, or national or ethnic origin. The school provides a range of opportunities for students to get involved, from volunteering at the library or Book Fair to supporting initiatives such as the Distinguished Speakers Dinner or EagleFest.
Westbury Christian School also offers students the chance to recognize and respond by faith to the Word of God, while participating in an educational program that emphasizes academic, social, emotional, and physical development. The Glassell School of Art is connected to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts and offers two different programs: Glassell Junior School and Glassell Advanced Portfolio Preparation Program. Studies have revealed that art education can reduce school dropout rates, increase student attendance, develop better team players, foster a love of learning, improve student dignity, increase student creativity and train citizens better prepared for tomorrow's workplace. The Rodeo School Art Program provides students from preschool to twelfth grade with the opportunity to compete in district exhibitions, earn scholarships, travel to summer workshops, and exhibit artwork at the Hayloft Gallery during the Rodeo. In January, schools participating in the program compete in district exhibitions evaluated by the Show's School Art Committee. In October, patients and their siblings create works of art that are evaluated by the judges of the School Art Committee.
The winning works receive a cash prize and the overall winning design is printed and distributed to schools enrolled in the Rodeo School Art Program. In conclusion, there are numerous opportunities for students to participate in music and arts programs at Christian schools in Katy, Texas. These programs give students a variety of ways to get involved in art education and help them develop academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
